Reporters Without Borders is a principle partner for the 2011 edition of the Lorenzo Natali Prize. An international media advocacy group founded in 1985 which has its headquarters in France, Reporters Without Borders aims to defend press freedom and to protect the right to freedom of expression and opinion. It defends journalists imprisoned or persecuted for doing their jobs and fights censorship and laws that undermine press freedom. Reporters Without Borders gives financial aid to around 300 journalists and media outlets in financial difficulty, as well as to the families of jailed reporters. The organisation, with offices around the world, also works to improve the safety of journalists, especially those working in war zones.
